From Sketch to DXF: What We Need to Create Your Cutting File
Got a part in mind but no DXF file yet? No stress—we can help get your idea off the page and onto the laser bed.
At Flamin Fabrications, we can create a cut-ready DXF file based on your sketch, drawing, or template. The more accurate your info, the smoother and cheaper the process will be.
Here’s a breakdown of what we need and what to expect.
Best Option: You Supply a DXF
The quickest and cheapest option is to upload a ready-to-go DXF file to our online quoting tool. If your file is good to go, we can quote it instantly—no extra design fees, no delay.
Got a Drawing? We Can Work With That
If you don’t have a DXF file but do have a detailed drawing with all measurements, we can convert it for a small fee. Here’s what we need:
-
A clear image or scan of the drawing
-
All dimensions labelled
-
Material thickness
-
Any special features noted (like holes, slots, folds)
Just make sure the drawing is neat and readable. The more detail you provide, the more accurate your part will be.
Supplied Template or Sketch? We Can Still Help
If you only have a rough sketch or a physical template, we can still turn it into a cutting file—but this will be the most expensive option, depending on the complexity of the part.
We’ll need to reverse-engineer the measurements and design, which takes extra time and attention.
For best results, make sure your template:
-
Is full size
-
Includes material thickness
-
Has any key cut-outs clearly marked
Important: One Part Per File
For online quoting, each DXF file must contain only one part. If you upload multiple parts in one file, it may underquote and won’t accurately reflect the job.
If you’re not sure how to separate parts or set it up correctly, we’re happy to help—just get in touch before uploading.
We’ll Send the File for Approval
Before cutting, we’ll send you the final DXF for approval (if we’ve created it for you). Once you confirm it’s all good, we’ll move ahead with quoting or production.
